Long - Volney Alexander "Eck"

Volney A (Eck) Long, 89, died at his home at 405 Wilson Avenue Sunday morning at 5 o'clock. Born Sept 21, 1877 in Fountain County, he was the son of John Wesley and Eliza Jane Booe. He married Pearl Furr December 24, 1898 and following her death Feb 22, 1932, he married Bertha Brown Feb 23, 1935. He was a member of the Christian Church. He attended Ingersol School in Fountain County and farmed in that county. He later operated a hardware business in Hillsboro and was last employed at The Journal & Review. Surviving are the widow; three daughters, Mrs. Clarence Alvey of New Ross, Mrs. Kenneth Lamb of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Harold Brown of HIllsboro; four sisters, Mrs. Olive Fine and Mrs. Ella Leonard of Crawfordsville, Mrs. Debbie Myer of Hillsboro and Mrs. Josephine Cooper of Indianapolis and a brother, Walter Long of Hillsboro. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Everett B. and John H. Long. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Waynetown Christian Church with Rev. Harry A. Davis of Clermont in charge. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the Utterback & Bright Funeral Home until noon Tuesday. - transcribed by kbz
